A second call for applications for NGI Zero Core is now open. NLnet foundation is behind this initiative. NLnet Foundation finances organisations and individuals whose aim is to contribute to an open information society in which the internet is accessible and trustworthy for all.
The NGI Zero Core project aims to fund EUR 8.8 million in research and development of general technologies that help to move internet openness forward through open source and hardware, open standards, open data and open access.
The aim of the initiative is to set the course for the next generation internet and technology development by providing people with a more reliable internet infrastructure. The aim is to maximise human potential, mobility and creativity, to shape an inclusive, greener, safer and resilient global internet.
What is expected:
- Develop options and improvements to basic internet care, software and protocols
- Remove street epers, choke points and improve monitoring possibilities.
- Improve security, integrity and high accessibility issues.
Funding for projects is between EUR 5.000 and EUR 50,000. There are no categorical exclusions of non-eligible persons, but with equivalent proposals priority is given to EU citizens and countries associated with the Horizon Europe research programme.
