About Cyber Fairy Tales

The Cyber Fairy Tales project was launched in 2021. It is the result of a long-term work of experts and enthusiasts in the field of information technology, security and cybersecurity, also engaged in the school education.  The main motive and goal were to explain primary cybersecurity threats to young children, in an attractive, and positive way.
As in the physical and cyber worlds, there are not only forces of good but also forces of evil; good people and people who have evil and nefarious intentions. Our modern societies are increasingly dependent on digital technologies. Digital technologies are good servants, but they can also be bad masters if misused, and we do not think about security. As in the physical world, there are many threats and risks in the cyber world.

The project aims to highlight the diverse hazards that users may encounter in the digital world, using well known stories, and emphasizes the importance of proper conduct while illustrating the potential consequences of disregarding it. 

Who are the beneficiaries

The project targets 3 to 7 year old children in the preschool and early primary education, their teachers and their parents. 

Outcomes and future plans

The project has yielded several outcomes, including the publication of a workbook, the release of the first book containing six fairy tales (2022), and the successful pilot involving 15 kindergartens. The book was distributed to 200 kindergartens and elementary schools. The future plan entails publishing a second book in 2023, along with providing additional methodological sheets for teachers by the end of the same year. 
 

Why is this a good practice

Cyber fairy tales bring the basic principles of safe behavior in the digital world closer not only to the children, but also to their parents, grandparents and teachers. As they are based on classic well-known fairy tales transferred to the digital world environment, they allow their readers to better understand the similarities and differences between the physical and digital worlds, thus helping them to better navigate and behave safely in the digital world.
