The Ministry of Science, Research and Arts (MKW – Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst, in German) represents the key areas of Baden-Württemberg. As the highest state body, it is responsible for all state universities, most non-university research institutions, scientific libraries and archives, as well as important artistic institutions in Baden-Württemberg.
There are currently more than 70 state and private universities in Baden-Württemberg. Outside universities, there are more than 100 research institutions in the Land of Baden-Württemberg, including 12 research institutions from Max Planck, 15 Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, 13 contractual research institutions and two major research institutions Helmholtz. For a large number of these institutions, the Ministry of Science participates in institutional funding or through projects.
