General guidelines
High-quality vocational education and training (VET) is essential to ensure that people have the right skills for current and future jobs, as Europe is undergoing its green and digital transitions. The Council Recommendation on vocational education and training (VET) for sustainable competitiveness, social fairness and resilience, adopted in November 2020, sets out the EU’s full vision and strategic objectives for the future of VET.
In light of this vision and the importance of reforms at national level in the field of VET, this publication also looks at EU initiatives pioneering the path and assistance available to Member States in this area.
The brochure, which contains a section on digital skills for ecology, recalls that the twin transition is at the heart of the Commission’s political agenda. VET systems and institutions are well-placed to facilitate upskilling and reskilling, which are necessary to ensure a just and inclusive transition. Programmes such as Erasmus+ and the Recovery and Resilience Fund can be used to support people through vocational education and training for labour market opportunities resulting from the twin transition.
