Malta is addressing such a need. Back in 2016, the first national cybersecurity strategy was published. Back in 2016, the first national cybersecurity strategy was published. Since then, digitalisation, including wider diffusion and consumption of broadband, mobile technologies, and data, has progressed further in Malta, along with increased use of social and business digital interactions.

The objective of this strategy is to build on the previous National Cyber security strategy by further aligning to specific domestic, EU and international regulatory requirements. Furthermore, this strategy seeks to address the present realities, challenges, and developments in cyber security both on a national and international level.
At a glance, the National Cybersecurity Strategy has several objectives with timely, specific and actionable measures, aimed at:
- Strengthening protection of digital infrastructure and its dependencies on a national scale, not only from a technological point of view but also from strategic, operational, legal and regulatory perspectives.
- Ensuring a cyber risk assessment approach across the business and economic sector.
- Ensuring national cybersecurity consciousness and increased capabilities in cybersecurity.
- Fostering cooperation in cybersecurity on a national, European and international scale.
