About the Programme: The master’s programme in computer science at the University of Linköping is designed for students with a bachelor degree in computer science. The programme aims at deepening theoretical knowledge and putting them into practice. It starts in autumn 2024, is full-time and is based in Linköping. The programme includes core and optional courses in areas such as artificial intelligence, databases, data security, and more. Students can choose to specialise or create their own course combination. It ends with a degree work that can be carried out in cooperation with companies or the university.
During the first three terminations, the programme includes not only core courses in theoretical computing science and programming, but also optional courses such as artificial intelligence, databases and data mining, game development, information security, advanced computer traffic and human computer interaction. The courses combine theoretical lectures with practical laboratory work and sometimes also include projects and seminars. During the last semester, you will write a degree work, either independently or together with a classroom, which can be carried out in collaboration with a company or as a research project at the university.
What you will learn: The Master’s programme offers five specialisations: Visualisation and data basket traffic, Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining, Computer Networks, Distributed Systems and Security, Embedded Systems and Programming and Software Methods. Students have the possibility to tailor their own study plan by freely choosing courses without being bound to a specific specialisation. While the majority of specialisations are available in Linköping, specialisation in Visualisation and data basket traffic is offered only at Campus Norrköping.
About school: The University of Linköping is known to be one of the most prominent centres of data science and technology in northern Europe, with a strong tradition of high-quality research and education. In the immediate vicinity of campus, Linköping Science Park, an Innovationshub with over 300 knowledge-intensive companies where many university alumni find employment. This cooperation between academia and industry contributes to a dynamic environment where theory meets practice and creates unique opportunities for students and researchers.
Pre-knowledge requirements: Applications forthe programme require a bachelor degree in computer science, information technology, software, computer technology, or a computer science degree including at least 60 higher education credits in relevant subjects such as programming, databases, and computer networks. In addition, a minimum of 24 credits in mathematics relevant to the programme and a good knowledge of English equivalent to English 6 is required. Selection is based on merit values divided into three groups, drawing lots if necessary within the same group.
Career prospects:
This programme equips you with skills to work at the forefront of today’s software and computer systems technology. You will be qualified for roles as an operating system developer, a specialist in internet security or AI, or in visualisation for fields such as medicine, business and social sciences. The programme also opens doors for a career in research or further studies at doctoral level, allowing you to deepen your knowledge and contribute to the leading edge of science.
