Course Content
Main contents of the course/Event and description In this learning experience, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of programming through the Python programming language. The aim of the course is to pique the participant’s interest in programming, and to demonstrate how a simple yet functional program can be built in a short amount of time with a little knowledge. The course starts with an introduction to the fundamentals of programming, such as the syntax and semantics of code, natural and machine languages and the difference between compilation and interpretation. Participants are also introduced to the Python programming language, including some brief history of the language, different versions of Python and the tools required to build a program. Participants will then practice writing some code to implement the basics of any programming language –variables, sequence, selection and iteration. Participants also learn about functions. Participants will then have a comprehensive session on object-oriented programming. After an introduction to OOP concepts, participants will create their own classes and objects, culminating in the creation of a web page which is powered by Python. This shows participants how languages such as Python can
be used on the web. Finally, skills learned will be combined into an encryption/decryption program, to demonstrate how skills learnt can be applied in a practical setting.
